OUR BELIEFS
At Parkway, we believe in the power and truth of Scripture, and we are committed to sharing the essential doctrines that guide our faith and practice. We hold to the clear and timeless truths of God’s Word, understanding that it is foundational to all that we do.
THE SCRIPTURES
We teach that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, inerrant Word of God. We are committed to preaching, teaching, counseling, sharing, and living by the sufficiency of the whole counsel of God because it contains everything we need for life and godliness. It is the final authority in all matters of faith, doctrine, and life, and we embrace its teachings as revealed in the original manuscripts.
THE TRINITY
We teach that there is one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is both fully God and fully man. We affirm His virgin birth, His sinless life, His atoning death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, and His promised return in power and glory.
THE FALL OF HUMANITY
We teach that God created humanity in His image; however, through one man’s disobedience, sin entered the world, and humanity fell from its original state of holiness. As a result, mankind incurred both spiritual and physical death, resulting in separation from God. This fall affected all of creation and has been passed down to every person, making us all sinners by nature. We are all in need of God’s grace and redemption, which can only be found through Jesus Christ.
SALVATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
We believe that salvation is a gift from God, made possible only through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God, in His grace and mercy, draws people to Himself through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts of sin, reveals the need for redemption and leads individuals to recognize their dependence on Christ for forgiveness. We affirm that salvation is not earned by works but is a free gift received through faith alone, by God’s grace alone. All who trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit, made new, and assured of eternal life with God. This transformation is secure in Christ and cannot be undone.
THE CHURCH
We believe that all who place their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately baptized by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the Church, of which Christ is the Head. The Church is the bride of Christ, and He loves, protects, and leads it. The local church, composed of baptized believers in a specific community, is a visible expression of the body of Christ. It exists for worship, fellowship, service, accountability, and the observance of the ordinances, including baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The local church is also called to make disciples, proclaim the gospel, care for the needy, and live out the teachings of Scripture as a witness to the world.
THE FUTURE
We believe in the triumphant return of Jesus Christ, who will come in glory to judge the living and the dead. At His return, there will be a bodily resurrection of all people—those who have trusted in Christ to eternal life, and those who have rejected Him to eternal separation from God. The saved will experience eternal joy and fellowship in God’s presence, enjoying the fullness of life in a new heaven and a new earth, where there will be no more sin, suffering, or death. We also affirm the reality of eternal separation from God for those who do not repent and place their faith in Jesus Christ, resulting in conscious, eternal punishment. This future hope motivates us to live in holiness, share the gospel, and eagerly await the fulfillment of God’s promises.
